Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Mr Bryce Hutchesson, visited Matara on 19th of August and met Chamber President Mr M.Widanagamachchi, 3 board members and CEO Mr Namal Dias. The High Commissioner was interested to hear about the activities of the two volunteer Management Advisers, Ms Menaka Radhakrishnan and Ms Jane Anderson, placed with the Chamber under the Australian Volunteers for International Development program (AVID). This program was developed in collaboration with the Sri Lankan government and a MoU signed. The Australian government funds advisors to work with local organisations and is particularly focussed on engaging with private enterprise. Mr Namal described some of the activities the Advisors have been working on including a youth entrepreneur initiative, developing a women’s business group and creating strategies on skills training and international engagement and Tourism Development in the region and impact of Tourism development with the community in the region.
